St. Kitts Branch

This last Sunday we attended Branch Conference in St. Kitts. We rode the ferry over Sunday morning with two other sisters from here. The San Juan Puerto Rico Mission presidency was there with their wives. It's always a treat to get to attend "normal" church meetings. After the block the Relief Society fed us a nice meal, and then we caught the ferry back to Nevis.

One of the members who went with us from here is from the Dominican Republic and speaks very little English. I sat by her during the conference and tried to translate for her. After sacrament meeting the mission president, President Alvarado, came to talk to Fransisca. He asked me where I learned Spanish and I told him I grew up in Chihuahua, Mexico. He said, "Oh, so you must be familiar with the Colonies." I laughed and told him that's where I grew up! Then he asked what my dad's name is. When I told him my dad is Dave Brown, his jaw dropped open and his eyes got wide! He asked, "is your dad the Dave Brown that was an Area Seventy in Mexico and the principal of the high school there?" "Yep, that's my dad!" He was so excited and told me he sat by my dad at General Conference when they were both Area Seventies. He kept saying, "I love your dad! We laughed so hard, and had so much fun!!" What could I say? My dad is a pretty great guy! :) The world is definitely small, and even smaller when you're Mormon!

Last September Adam was called to be the second counselor in the branch presidency. His primary responsibilities have been to oversee things for the small group of church members here in Nevis. He attends weekly presidency meetings, and has taught in a few training meetings all via Skype! He really enjoys working with the other men in the presidency. Since we're not sure if we'll get to attend church in St Kitts again before we leave in April, I snapped some pictures of them all together while we were there this weekend.

This is Brother Benjamin, the branch executive secretary. Pretty sure the St Kitts Branch couldn't function without him!
