St. Patrick's Day... Chicago Style
Happy St. Patrick's Day from the windy city! We celebrated on Saturday, downtown with the rest of the city! We rode the train in to downtown early in the morning to get there in time for the annual "dyeing of the river". Apparently every year they dye the river bright green for St. Patricks day. It sounded crazy, so we had to check it out! It was actually pretty neat! There were so many people that came out for the big event... most of them dressed in they're craziest green outfits, and a lot of them already acting like they got a jump start on their alcohol consumption for the day. :) The river banks were packed with people and everyone cheered as speed boats drove up and down dumping in what must have been hundreds of gallons of green dye! The color supposedly stays for about 5 hours, but we did not... after the river we headed a few blocks over to watch the parade. It was fun... lots of bagpipes and marching bands, and little kids' Irish dancing groups. We only lasted about an hour and then the cool breeze turned freezing cold, so we called it quits and headed home! It was a fun day while it lasted!
