Olympian for a Day!

How many of us dreamed of being an Olympic star when we were younger? I'd be lying if I said I didn't. In fact, every time the Olympics roll around there is a little piece of me that still wishes I could be as talented as those athletes!  Well, last Friday my Olympic dream came true when I was invited to play on the American women's basketball team in the first ever MUA Olympics: USA vs. Canada!

We met in a small indoor gym for the game Friday night. My feelings weren't really hurt when I learned the gym was only half-court, since I was already feeling out of breath just thinking about running up and down a full court! Students from both countries lined the court and filled the little balcony and were cheering enthusiastically, waving posters and flags. Emotions were definitely running high, and based on some of the trash talking I'd heard about in the days leading up to the games, I was honestly a little bit scared that there would be blood involved at some point!

Both teams battled hard for four grueling six-minute quarters! My biggest fan, who stood and cheered faithfully from the sidelines, described the game as "a real nail biter!" And in the end, I'm sorry to report, Canada emerged triumphant with a final score of 10 to 6. (hence the nail biter comment)

Most of my team disappeared so fast after the game that I didn't get a picture with them. But I did get one with team Canada. My Olympic career was extremely short, and not very sweet, but it was a lot of fun!
