Weekend Fun

This last weekend we took our first trip to St. Kitts! We met a couple from the branch there a couple weeks ago when they came to visit our little Nevis group with the couple missionaries. They manage a couple of vacation condos for a couple from Florida there, and invited us to stay there if we wanted to come over, so we took them up on it! We stayed in one of the condos with two sets of couple missionaries. The Hymas's, who are serving in the Puerto Rico Mission presidency, and The Volkmans, who just got here to start a six month mission! It was nice of them to let us crash their party. The condo was amazing! Decorated and furnished with top of the line everything, even a big screen TV!

I'm so mad that I didn't take pictures! It got dark shortly after we got over to St. Kitts, and then I didn't get the camera out the next day at all! Oh well, I guess we'll just have to take another trip over for pictures soon. :)

We headed over on the 4:00 pm car ferry which, by the time they loaded all the cars and got off, turned out to be about the 4:45 pm ferry. Gotta love island standard time! We were one of the first ones on the ferry...

And they just kept packing the cars on until no more would fit!

From where the ferry docs, it's about a 15 minute drive though the hills until you get to "civilization" on st kitts.  The mountains and hills of St Kitts look more grassy and open, as oposed to the thick jungle on Nevis. The views are stunning from every direction! Here's the view from the top of the last hill before you drop down into town.

We had such a great time! Saturday night we hung out with our new friends, the Princes. He is attending Vet school in St. Kitts and they've been there for just over a year. They took us to eat at a cool little beach bar, we went for a walk around the Mariott resort (WOW!) and then we went to see a MOVIE!! We watched Real Steel, and we loved it. I think it was a great movie anyway, but I'm sure the fact that we haven't been in a movie theather in months made it even better! :)

Sunday we got to go to church at the St. Kitts Branch. There were about 50 people in attendance that day (there are apparently about 100 members in the branch). The members were all so nice and welcoming. I loved that it was fast and testimony meeting and that we got to hear so many of their testimonies. A lot of them haven't been members of the church very long but their testimonies, although very simple, are sincere and strong. It was a great block of meetings!

After church we grabbed our stuff and headed back to the ferry to come home. It started to rain just as we were loading, so we opted to just stay in our car for the ride back to Nevis. We were about half way through the 20 minute trip, and I just had to laugh. I told Adam, "Isn't it cool that this is our life? We're just sitting in our car, on a big barge, floating along in the middle of the ocean, going back to our little island. Who would have ever thought?!" Not me!
