We're Alive!

After a six week blogging drought, I guess we're due for an update! Here's a little bit of what's been going on in Nevis...

-- At the end of last month another tractor showed up and cleared out the lot in front of us, and a few days later another come and cleared the one across the street. When these guys go to work, they don't mess around! Having the lot in front of us cleared out really opened everything up, and actually made our view of the ocean better!

Here's a picture of the before:

And a picture of the after:

-- I'm still enjoying my work at the dentist office. Business has been pretty slow, and we only end up working about 15 hours/ week. I get to meet a lot of really "interesting" people. I've learned that people here have no concept of time, or appointments. I can call people the day before their appointment, the morning of their appointment, and thirty minutes before their appointment, and still, on a day that we have six or seven patients scheduled, if three of them show up, we call the day a success! One huge plus that has come from working there is that I'm getting better and better at understanding people around here. Who knew? All that jiberish coming out of their mouths really IS english!! :)

-- ISLAND FEVER: A psychological illness that usually affects poor people on islands. Island Fever is the realization that you are stuck on which ever island you are living and not going anywhere.
Two words folks: It's. Real. :)

-- I started school! After a lot of thinking and exploring options, I decided to go ahead and get in to an online BSN program. I'm very excited about the fact that I can complete the entire thing online, and I hope to be able to have it done by next fall.

-- Adam is 18 days away from finishing Med 3! He's done so well this semester, and is very excited to move on to Med 4. He works so hard, day in and day out, and I could not be more proud of him!

-- We've had a few big rainstorms this week. I'm pretty sure the "rainy season" is finally starting. I love how green and alive everything looks right after a rainstorm! There are Flamboyant Trees or Shack Shack Trees (local name) in bloom all over the island right now. Their bright red and orange colors are so pretty, and add a nice pop of color to the landscape. Even after living here for almost a year, I'm still constantly amazed at the beauty that surrounds us here!
