Home Sweet Home

August 22, 2011, 11:20 pm: We departed from the Phoenix airport headed for our new home. After long layovers in Charlotte and St. Martin, we boarded a little 19 seater plane for our last little piece of the trip to our final destination. There was nothing but ocean on either side of the plane for as far as we could see. It was just starting to get dark, and then we saw it out in the distance.... Nevis! It looked so small from way up there in the sky, just a little clump of land in the middle of that great big ocean... and we were going to live there! It was (and still is) so surreal!

We landed on the little runway and went in to claim our luggage, and only had one suitcase come off the plane (we checked four bags). Apparently, since the plane is so small, they rarely bring all the luggage. They just leave it in St Martin and bring whatever they can fit each trip. There is one flight from St. Martin to Nevis every day. We were told to just come back the next night and see if our other bags had come in. Luckily we had enough clothes and stuff in our carry-ons to get by! It was completely dark by the time we got through customs, so we couldn't see much of the landscape on our ride to our hotel. We stayed at Oualie Beach, a nice little hotel right on the beach.

The next morning we were up early to meet the lady from the rental car company to get a car for the week, and then met up with a real estate agent who took us around to look at apartments. Adam was so good, and set everything up before we left home. Nevis is beautiful! There are a few palm trees here and there, but it's mostly just thick green jungle everywhere! The main road runs right along the coast for the most part, in a circle all the way around the island. It takes about 40 minutes to drive around the whole thing.

So we looked at a few apartments with the real estate agent, who is so nice! We really feel like it was a blessing that we found her. She has been so helpful, answering all our million questions and making sure we have everything we need to get settled in. Anyway, we found an apartment right away that we really liked... a cozy little one bedroom, upstairs apartment at "Charly's Yellow Apartments" in Cade's Bay. It was clean, and affordable, and available to move in the next day! So we took it. :)

And for those who are worried about our luggage... two more bags came in on the flight the second night, and our last bag arrived safely on the third night. Adam said he was never so glad to see luggage in his whole life! We were like little kids at Christmas!

So we're all settled in to our very first home, and it's perfect! We are up the hill a little ways, kind of secluded from everyone and everything. There are a few other houses around us, but it's very quiet. After we drove all the way around the island, we both felt like we ended up in a nice place, in a very good location.

Ok, ok... enough with the rambling! Let's get on with the pictures! :)
